Digital Magazines for Business

digital magazine

What is a Digital Magazine?

In the early days a digital magazine was simply a standard magazines converted to PDF as in most cases they were viewed on a computer screen.

Since the introduction of mobile devices and tablets this is not such a good way to deliver a digital magazine and a whole new industry is starting up around creating digital magazines in more compatible formats.

The new digital magazine producer also makes use of the great aspects of the internet and mobile enabled sites linking to other m0obile sites like Facebook, Youtube, Pinterest and so many more..

It is often forgotten that the digital publication industry has only been around since 2010. This should come as no surprise considering it is also the birth year of the modern tablet industry. As is to be expected with any emerging market, it takes several years for the pioneers of the digital magazine age to develop an earnest understanding of the underlying technologies.

At the same time, a digital magazine is far less static than traditional publications, given the devices they are viewed on and the intimacy of the user experience. Understanding how to properly produce content for such a new, yet familiar medium has been an exercise in passion and patience requiring a set of skills that takes years to develop.

Its the perfect time to be looking at developing a digital magazine for your business.

Digital Magazine Formats

When I talk about formats I mean the content more so than the layout which we will talk about later.

Digital Magazine formats are different than most other digital formats in that magazines are a mixture of articles, tips and tricks, interviews and advertising all bundled in an easy to read presentation.

Digital Magazine presentation

With so many different platforms for reading your content it is important to format it in such a way that you can access it on a tablet to a laptop etc.

The way to do this is keep the content in a little larger font and keep the layout large.

This is especially so for the magazine format. Many traditional magazines just convert to pdf however 4 columns is almost impossible to read on a tablet.

Size of the download is also important for the same reason. Today while researching this topic I went to download a very popular magazine and it was over 50 mb.

On a tablet this would be a quick sign to a reader to not download it.

Once you master it you can use the same skill to create digital catalogues etc. So you can choose to create your own for create them for                others.

Usually we like to stick to one maybe two columns so the information can be easily read on tablets and mobiles. In most cases we like to present the information in a PDF format which can then be downloaded on any device.

In some instances we also develop mobile site Digital Magazines.

Best accessed on your Mobile or Tablet

Digital Magazine Distribution

Just like many other sectors online you may never compete with large magazine producers however there are plenty of small niches you can conquer and become the goto distributor.

There are quite a few sites you can distribute your magazines on and if you do not want to charge for your magazine you can get some prtetty good stats which will enable you to charge for advertising.

Easy Sketch Pro Review

Easy Sketch Pro 2

Watch exactly why Easy Sketch Pro 2.0  dwarfs every other piece of video software out there!

*** STOP PRESS: Easy Sketch Pro normally sells for $147 but the all-new Version 2.0 is currently available at the incredibly low introductory price of just $29 from here (and you still get all of our bonuses). The price will be rising very soon! ***

Easy Sketch Pro 2.0 Whiteboard AnimationEasy Sketch Pro is software that automates the process of creating so-called ‘whiteboard animation videos’ where images and text are ‘drawn’ on screen to illustrate the narrative of the video.

Whiteboard animation videos are known by many other names including ‘sketch videos’, ‘doodle videos’, ‘video scribing’ or ‘explainer videos’. We will stick with whiteboard animation for convenience.

In its original form, ‘whiteboard animation’ is where an artist sketches images and text onto a whiteboard, or maybe paper or canvas, to illustrate a particular script or narrative.

The artist is videoed during his or her work and the footage is then edited and speeded up so that images and text coincide with what is being said in the voice-over narrative for the final video.

In essence, whiteboard animation is more aptly described as ‘time-lapse’ or ‘stop-motion’ video, since, despite the name, actual animation in the usual sense of the word is rarely used.

To provide a more cost-effective alternative, software (such as Easy Sketch Pro) is coming onto the market to mimic true whiteboard animation without involving human beings in the process.

You can find out more about whiteboard animation in this Wikipedia (opens in a new window).

Purchase Easy Sketch Pro 2 Here

What Can You Do with Easy Sketch Pro?

1) Use Easy Sketch Pro to promote affiliate offers

When you promote an affiliate offer (i.e. where you earn commissions on sales of someone else’s product or service), the chances are that there will be hundreds, if not thousands, of other people doing exactly the same thing.

How do you stand out from the crowd and get people to click on your links and not the other guy’s? Why not create a simple whiteboard animation video with Easy Sketch Pro to introduce the key benefits of the offer?

Very few people are using whiteboard animation, and especially Easy Sketch Pro yet, and so your pitch is going to be both unusual and entertaining and, therefore, more effective.

2) Use Easy Sketch Pro  to encourage optins

If you are an Internet marketer, you are more than likely to be sending people to an ‘optin page’ where you offer them some form of free gift in exchange for their email addresses. This is called ‘list building’.

The problem with optin pages is that they all look so similar these days. And, to be honest, they are pretty dull and uninteresting!

Use an entertaining whiteboard animation video with Easy Sketch Pro on your optin page and you are much more likely to grab people’s attention. Even better, create a ‘two-part’ video that leaves viewers wanting more. To get more, of course, they have to leave their email address to see ‘part 2′.

3) Use Easy Sketch Pro to make your blog or website ‘stickier’

If you have a blog or website, you want to keep your visitors on it for as long as possible. In other words, you want to increase its ‘stickiness’.

Whiteboard animation videos made with Easy Sketch Pro are much more engaging than more traditional screen capture or ‘talking head’ videos. They tell a visual story and people love stories. They also give you the opportunity to inject some humour into your content without detracting from the message you are trying to get across.

4) Use Easy Sketch Pro to get ‘traffic’

Most marketers know the power of getting a video on YouTube (or other video service), getting it viewed and then sending viewers (or ‘traffic’) to whatever offer you are promoting. In fact, YouTube is the second most used search engine online.

But most people shy away from creating videos, either because they don’t want to be seen on camera or because they don’t think they can master the technical aspects.

Whiteboard animation videos (using Easy Sketch Pro) are the perfect answer. You write a script, record it and then create images to accompany it. It’s quick, engaging and even fun to do.

5) Use Easy Sketch Pro instead of sales copy

Many marketers struggle with writing good ‘sales copy’ (the words that sell their product or service).

Instead, why not create a whiteboard animation video or, even better, a series of videos that gets your message across. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and it is certainly true that many people prefer watching and listening to having to wade through dry text.

6) Use Easy Sketch Pro to teach

The most effective teaching happens when students are being entertained at the same time. So why not create one or more whiteboard animation videos, interlaced with screen capture or live action video as necessary? You could even create a sketch ‘teacher’ who turns up to introduce and summarise key points in your training.

7) And so much more

This is just a small taster of what you can achieve with Easy Sketch Pro. The limit really is your own imagination.

What Does Easy Sketch Pro Do?

Essentially, Easy Sketch Pro is software that mimics the process of a ‘real’ artist’s hand sketching images and text.

You provide the finished images and text you want to illustrate the narrative of your video and load them into the software. Easy Sketch Pro will then analyze them, break them down into their constituent parts and then rebuild them on screen with the addition of a graphical ‘hand’ to make it appear that they are being drawn.

Where Can You Get the Best Deal for Easy Sketch Pro?

Easy Sketch Pro normally sells for $147 but the all-new Version 2.0 is currently available at a heavily discounted introductory price of just $29 from here.

This is the lowest price the software will ever be sold at and it may increase at any point after an initial user base is established.

This is a one-off payment to purchase the software and there are no on-going payments of any kind.

The purchase price includes…

  • Lifetime use of the software to create unlimited whiteboard animation videos

  • Comprehensive user manual

  • Video tutorials on using the software

  • Dedicated support desk for any queries or problems

  • Lifetime upgrades to the software (there have already been several in response to user feedback)

  • Additions to the built-in image library on a weekly basis in response to user requests

  • Our huge and exclusive Welcome Bonus Package (see below for details)

This basic licence allows you to create unlimited whiteboard animation videos for personal use or use in your business.

If you want to use the software to create whiteboard animation videos for third parties (e.g. to promote other businesses), you will need the additional commercial licence. This is currently an extra $66.

Using Graphics for business

No one judges a book by its cover, right?

Right. Well, your ebook, audio product or video course had better be properly packaged or your sales will most definitely suffer. Just because you’re selling digital e-products doesn’t mean that the critical role packaging plays in the marketing process has changed.

Obviously in this section it is hard to be too specific as you could be setting up a blog to sell products and services, how to grow the best potatoes in the world or dealing with multi nationals. For this reason I will go more into the principles and provide the resources for you to accomplish the right design. You can always use the forum to ask more specific questions.

Whether your selling someone else’s product or developing your own try and provide nice eye candy for your customers. A nice eBook or box cover can make all the difference to a successful campaign. Creating an attractive template for your eBooks only takes a few extra minutes of work but the overall look can be greatly enhanced and make your product look much more professional.

A simple, yet well designed header, can make your site stand out from the crowd and and make people feel confident you know what you are talking about.

Pinterest and Altetrnatives

You read it everywhere – pinning on Pinterest is great for business.  From increasing brand awareness and customer engagement to making more sales, Pinterest is a proven powerhouse.

Pinning” as it is called, refers to the posting of files to a sharing website – Pinterest being the market leader.  These files are usually images, but could be documents, pdf files, or video.  For this article – I will focus on images, as they are most common.

Think of pinning as an electronic corkboard for your pictures, video, and letters – but with messaging & sharing capabilities – get the picture now?

Whether an auto repair shop, insurance agent, boutique store, remodeling contractor, restaurant, or tourist attraction – pinning is a great way to share your brand & stories.  In addition, by including these links pointing back to your website ie. linkbuilding, pinning could even elevate your ranking on search engines, thus drawing more organic online-visibility to your business.

Consider these 17 Pinterest alternates – Happy Pinning!

What are stripe payments

Stripe is a company that provides a way for individuals and businesses to accept payments over the Internet through their Stripe Payments interface.

It is providing an alternative to Paypal and other online payment systems and while quite new is being quite aggressive in its marketing and compatibility within other systems.

The beauty is that you can now use both Paypal and Stripe Payments and pick up more customers as Stripe allows for direct Credit Card Payments with none of the hassels that Paypal provides. It also works cross platform and cross device so you can use it to collect payments on mobiles and tablets.

Stripe payments

 Stripe Payments VS Paypal

Stripe payments-vs-PayPal

As you can see, $5,000 in monthly volume is an interesting data point. That’s right around where it starts becoming cheaper to use PayPal. Keep in mind, we’re not counting any of the service fees we discussed earlier, which would bring the PayPal costs up a bit.

When do I get paid?

PayPal usually pays out within 1 business day, while Stripe Payments takes 7 full days. If fast access to your funds is important, keep this in mind.

Update: USA Stripe customers now get faster two day transfers.

Security

Both Stripe Payments and PayPal take security seriously. At the core, they’re both very stable and secure platforms. Let’s talk about how they’re different, and how Stripe Payments intrinsically encourages good security.

Stripe’s killer feature when they first launched was Stripe.js. When you use Stripe.js on your website, the credit card data entered into your payment form is never sent to your server. Instead, the data is sent directly to Stripe. Why is this so important?

  • Automatically PCI compliant because you don’t handle any sensitive credit card data on your servers.

  • More secure because a breach of your servers won’t result in any stolen credit card data.

  • You’re not tempted to store credit card data on your servers, which you really shouldn’t be doing unless you’re a big business and want to pay for PCI compliance.

If you follow the normal flow with Stripe Payments, you’ll just automatically store your cards in their vault. You’ll never touch the sensitive data. Thisencourages good security.

PayPal now has a way to store cards in a vault, but it isn’t quite the same as Stripe.js. The sensitive card data has to go through your servers, and this puts a big security burden (see PCI compliance above) on the software developer or the customer who has installed the software.

In summary, Stripe.js encourages good developer security practices, while PayPal gives developers room to make bad decisions. They’ve recently taken steps to provide better options, but these options still aren’t as secure as Stripe.js.

Stripe Payments in Other Programs

As stripe Payments grabs traction we see it popping up in many different programs.

I did an article a while ago re online accounting and telling you how I moved to a free accounting system called Wavapps and how we used stripe to collect payments. You can read the article here.

We have also incorporated in our Woo Commerce store where we sell a range of digital products. You can View the site here.

Plus you can get a number of plugins for your own site that allow you to use Stripe Payments for your payments.

Important Note: It is always suggested that when allowing people to enter their Credit Cards on your site that you use a good SSL Certificate and you can pick them up quite cheaply. To do this with a normal back will take hours and all sorts of fees an paperwork.

Stripe Payments For eCommerce

Irish co-founder John Collison, 24, says Stripe payments is aimed at helping businesses, particularly online start-ups, to quickly set up a way to get paid and will cut out the need for extra staff to maintain banking and payment relationships.

“It allows people to start accepting payments from anyone anywhere in their particular currency,” he says. “Online businesses are very fast moving and the last thing they have time for is to spend time setting up payments.”

Stripe Payments provides a “tech platform that businesses can build on”, giving the merchant a set of “application user interfaces”. Once incorporated into the businesses’ websites, these automatically set up the necessary links to payment options and to the merchants’ bank accounts, according to Collison.

Stripe Payments says it is now being used in 17 countries and is processing “billions of dollars” every year.

It will cost businesses 1.75 per cent plus 30¢ of each domestic transaction, and 2.90 per cent plus 30¢ for international and American Express transactions.

Call To Action for Website Conversion

We hear a lot about traffic and content on our websites however the secret is really about website conversion. And this all stems from a good call to action.

I have looked at a huge number of websites in my career and website conversion is something very few website owners seem to concentrate on and yet it is the life blood of any online business.

What is a Good Website Conversion Rate?

If you’re like 99.9999% of all online businesses, your conversion rate is below 3%, and quite likely below 1%. Imagine how much more you’d be making if your conversion rate was as high as Amazon where the lowest conversion rate is around 9.6%, even if you were not getting any more traffic.

What Factors Affect Website Conversion Rate?

Not every website can get a conversion rate that high. And the ones that do have a number of things in their favour:

Website Conversion depends on design and content – This is the easiest factor to change. Simply put some time, effort and budget into how well designed your website is and how compelling your content is.

We use a simple plugin called Call To Action Pro

website conversion call to action pro

Product – This is one of those simple-but-not-easy cases. The better your product, the more likely it is to get more sales.

Exceptional offers increase Website Conversion – People buy based on great offers, either real or perceived. Having a free trial for a service or free return shipping  will dramatically lower a potential customer’s barriers to convert. Also, remember that it is all about perception – the never-ending “offer ends soon” hook works as well now as ever before.

Business model can effect website conversion– This is similar to the product, in that it is all about how compelled people are to buy your product or service. A website that sells books or last-minute flowers will convert much more easily than a furniture website.

Website Conversion with a Brand name – No-one doubts the integrity of Amazon, so they have no qualms about purchasing something off their website. A brand is built on both awareness and perception. A brand with a legendary reputation for low prices, exceptional service or amazing products eg Emirates or Singapore Airlines) will always outperform one that has a shoddy track record Jetstar or Tiger Airways.
Website Conversion

Generate super qualified traffic for better Website Conversion – Your website conversion will be higher if your traffic generation strategy focuses on pulling in only super qualified traffic. This can be done by focusing only on long tail buying keywords with a PPC campaign. The downside of this is that you potentially lose a lot of short tail sales from sheer volume driving keywords.

You can also narrow down and save costs by using [website conversion] “website conversion” brackets and quotations. These are called exact and phrase match and only bring in qualified leads.

Repeat business and referrals is best for Website Conversion – people that have bought from you before (and are happy with you) will return to buy again. So don’t ignore the traffic that you have worked so hard to get in the first place. Keep them engaged with you by way of email marketing, follow up calls, social media and any other creative outlets you can think of.

Can I Get a 10% Conversion Rate?

Based on the factors above, the first thing you should realize is that a 10% conversion rate isn’t possible for everyone. Even if it’s possible for you though, the 10% conversion rate won’t happen overnight. It will take time, a huge investment in evolving your entire product offering and business and a lot of expertise. That may seem daunting to you, but always remember that progress is better than perfection. If you improved your conversion rate from 1% to 2%, that would double your online business. Isn’t that progress worth it?

So set some short and medium term goals and start picking off the lowest lying fruit – improving your conversion rate through relatively simple website re-designs, restructuring of content and A/B testing. These are also easy to outsource (to a degree), so get cracking!

To help you along you can get this great software to help you create calls to action and improve your website conversion in just minutes

Blogging For Profit

Blogs are usually performed in a blogging platform like WordPress and other formats. They follow a standard format built around the content.

Blogging for Profit

A good blog post has a number of characteristics that basically never change. This is because content is king and always will be.

No matter what your business a couple of posts a week can drive a lot of traffic to your site. Add to this if you post about 1 post a day for about 10 days it will train Google and they will come visit your site a lot quicker and also add you post to the search engine almost immediately.

Blogging For Profit Step 1 – Link Search Engines

The first thing to do is make sure your site is linked to Google and Bing webmaster and also that your sites xml site map is loaded in both places.

Blogging For Profit Step 2 – Your Title Will Make or Break Your Post

Your title will either encourage your readers to go further or simply turn them off. David Ogilvy once said, “On the average, five times as many people read the headline as read the body copy. When you have written your headline, you have spent eighty cents out of your dollar.”

Your title in a post is the same as a headline so if it does not capture them they wont go any further.

Blogging For Profit Step 3 – Lead Paragraph.

This is key. If you take too long on the wind-up, you will lose readers. You have to get into the premise of the post and make it relevant to your readers. This should contain your key phrase in the first sentence.

Blogging For Profit Step 4 – High Quality Relevant Image

Images are very important to your post just as they are in any advertising, magazine or paper. Not only will your image give substance to your post it will also be a key feature in your social bookmarks. Also in sites like pinterest, Flikr etc it will be the gateway to your post.

Make sure you give it a good name. something like video.png will not hack it. You need something like blogging-for-profit-video.png.

Blogging For Profit Step 5 – Make it Personal Where Possible.

Sharing personal experiences encourages the relationship. The best posts are based around stories. When I talk on the stage or write a post I try and be a story teller.

Blogging For Profit Step 6 – The Body

Everything to this point has been an introduction. I always try to make my main content scannable. I use bullets, numbered lists—and often both. This makes the content more accessible to readers and more sharable via Twitter and Facebook.

After The Post

Once the post has been completed always re read and make corrections and see that it reads nicely in one sitting.

Tags: Now that your post is finished you can add some tags. These can add a lot of value to your post and you can introduce some new key phrases.

Categories: Are a way to organize your posts into various areas like folders and the naming should also follow your main thrust of your overall site.

SEO: This is usually performed with a plugin like All in One SEO where you can add a title description and key phrases.

Comments: Most blogging platforms allow for comments which allow for interaction. Always make them moderated so you can control the conversation.

Sharing: This comes in two waves. Adding sharing buttons to your post allows for other to share on their social platforms.

The second from is to add the post to all your social networks which I suggest you set up. With programs like WordPress this can be automated to a certain extent.

Provide internal links: I can’t say everything in one post, so I link to other posts where I have developed a thought in more detail. This has the added vantage of increasing my pageviews and session times. I think it is also genuinely helpful to my readers.

At Web Marketing For Profit we can help teach you how to blog so just contact us.

Business WordPress

Every customer gets a business grade Hosting account with CPanel

and Business WordPress site pre-loaded.

Here at Web Marketing For Profit we believe in providing everything a customer may need to either promote a current business online or to build a new online business.

Self Managed Business WordPress site and hosting

Web Marketing For Profit provides you with a fully self managed hosted business wordpress program. We have worked with many businesses who have set up their own website but have had little success in generating leads or sales from their efforts. By using our system we continuously help you get great results.

In this site we provide the system and the training to help you develop your own business WordPress website and all the different ways you can make it work. We do this through tutorials, live Q and A and some support. All this for just $25.00 a month.

Done For You

In our other site at http://wmfp.com.au we provide a full customized service where we do all the work for you. Some of our clients like us to put it all together for them then get us to manage the whole system and some like to help with input etc.

It is up to you how much you want to get involved in developing your business wordpress site.

Why do we use WordPress?

1. WordPress is now packed with standard features

Although WordPress has retained ease-of-use for a number of years, the features list has grown exponentially. Menu configuration and media handling are two good examples of things that have got steadily more powerful with no sacrifice made in usability. We like it so much we use it ourselves.

Your Business WordPress site is a competent Content Management System with a variety of enhancements it will adapt well to any business from simple product information right up to a fully customized eCommerce site. It can be used for social clubs to charity and mainstream organizations.

Most importantly it will grow with you.

2. The learning curve is quick and simple

Creating a new post in your business WordPress site and uploading some images is simplicity itself. Once learned it is almost the same to create pages. In fact most of our clients just use these two processes in their business wordpress site.

At the same time, however, there’s loads of functionality at your fingertips. It’s easy to ignore things you don’t understand, and then gradually learn more and more. By contrast, Joomla and Drupal, can have a beginners head spinning because they use complicated processes to do simple tasks.

3. The theme selection is impressive

There are thousands of great WordPress themes available, and many of them are completely free.

business wordpress-responsive

However, it’s at the premium (commercial) end of the market that things get really interesting. Some of the premium WordPress themes essentially work like Web design construction kits in their own right and give you the ability to create sites that look truly world class at an average price of about $50!

4. WordPress is easy to add eCommerce

Whether you are selling products directly from your site, or monetizing with ads and affiliate offers, your business WordPress site makes it easy.

Ads are easily inserted using widgets and eCommerce can be handled by a range of plugins including the popular WooCommerce.

5. There are some excellent plug-ins

Plugins add functionality to your business WordPress site and as long as you use ones that are well documented and supported you can do so many different things.

Best of all, you can usually find a free plugin to do most things perfectly well. Furthermore, most plugins are downloaded, installed and configured in a matter of minutes. WordPress’ emphasis on ease-of-use seems to have rubbed off on the plug-in writers!

Most are load and forget so you are free to work on the more important things in your business WordPress site.

6. Updates just keep coming

As WordPress is so popular, work on the platform never stops. While this sometimes means that keeping on top of updates feels like a never-ending job, it also makes for a system that’s constantly evolving and improving, with new functions being added all the time.

7. Support is second to none

As you would expect from such a popular platform, the support community is active and huge. Aside from the dedicated WordPress support resources, you’ll find an abundance of third-party forums and other options for assistance. If you have any question at all, you can be pretty sure that somebody has already answered it somewhere.

The beauty of this is that if we disappear you will have a huge army of people who can carry on your work.

8. SEO is made easy

WordPress is inherently quite SEO-friendly, with features such as the ability to automatically generate search-friendly URLS, but with the addition of a couple of plugins, such as the Google XML Site Map and the All-in-One SEO pack, you can force yourself to maintain good SEO discipline, giving your site the best chance of good search results.

Add to this how easy it is to use plugins to integrate with social networks, and a business WordPress site can perform very well in terms of modern SEO with quite minimal effort.

While we’re discussing WordPress, it’s important to note the distinction between WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG.

WordPress.COM is a hosted blogging platform. It’s completely free to use, and it’s easy to get started. However, your website will have an address like www.yourpersonalblog.wordpress.com

There are also various restrictions to WordPress.COM blogs. Although you can use affiliate links to make money promoting products, you are not allowed to place banner ads or sign up to third-party networks such as Google AdSense.

In addition, WordPress.COM restricts you from using advanced (premium) themes and limits the number of plug-ins you can use. It should be seen as a “starter pack” and not as the foundation for a major Web project.

WordPress.ORG is where you can download a stand alone wordpress file and uses exactly the same framework but is installed on your own Web hosting space (Except we will do it for you).

A business WordPress site is completely your own, and you are free

to sell advertising and use it exactly as you wish.

If you’ve yet to try WordPress, we seriously recommend you give it a go. If it’s been a while since you worked on a website, you will find what you can do with such a simple interface truly staggering.

Free Windows Movie Maker For Business

windows-movie-maker-for-businessWindows Movie maker is a great introduction to movie making for your business and will introduce you to the basic concepts of making movies for your business and the best thing is that is is free.

There are two versions that we use for making videos for business and the first is version 6 and the second in Version 2012.

Version 6 uses a time line and is great if you want a lot of control.

Version 2012 is also good but does not have a time line so is more for compiling different files into the final product so a lot simpler but still quite powerful.

Here are the links:

Version 2012 Download – Version 6 Download 32 and 64

If you decide to go with version 6 then you may want to add the K Lite Codec Pak which will allow for importing  of mp4 files and much more.

Files are usually saved into WMF files which convert great in youtube and the other free video sharing sites.

Here is one of our students videos which covers the basics.

If you use xp then you will find it in your accessories folder. There are plenty of tutorials around for this.

This is a great little piece of software as you can add other clips, record audio to add to the clip which means you could make a silent movie then add audio to it later.

The latest version and some tutorials can be found here.

In fact version 6 is almost the same as Camtasia editor. It will usually install in accessories/entertainment.

Editing clips

You have several options for editing clips:

  • Splitting a clip. You can split a video clip into two clips. This is useful if you want to insert either a picture or a video transition in the middle of a clip. You can split a clip that appears on the storyboard/timeline of a current project, or you can split the clip in the Contents pane.
    .

  • Combining clips. You can combine two or more contiguous video clips. Contiguous means the clips were captured together so that the end time of one clip is the same as the start time of the next clip. Combining clips is useful if you have several short clips and you want to view them as one clip on the storyboard/timeline. Similar to splitting a clip, you can combine contiguous clips in the Contents pane or on the storyboard/timeline.
    .

  • Trimming a clip. You can hide parts of a clip you do not want in your project. For example, you can trim the beginning or end of a clip. Trimming does not remove the information from the source material; you can clear the trim points to return the clip to its original length at any time. Clips can only be trimmed after they have been added to the storyboard/timeline. You cannot trim clips in the Contents pane.

Drag the trim handles, which are shown in the following illustration, to trim the unwanted portions of the clip.trim1

  • Creating clips. You also create clips from video clips after they have been imported or captured in Windows Movie Maker. This lets you create clips at any time when working in Windows Movie Maker. By separating video clips into smaller clips, you can easily find a particular part of your captured or imported video to use in your movie.

Splitting your Video

You will use the Split Movie option to split your video clip into two pieces.

  1. Place the seek bar in the location where the split is to occur.

  2. Click on the Split Video button . The movie is split into two pieces. At this time, both pieces are placed on the Timeline or the Storyboard.

Add a Transition

Using video transitions, video effects, and titles

You can enhance your movies by adding different elements to your movie, such as the following:

  • Video transitions. A video transition controls how your movie plays from one video clip or picture to the next. You can add a transition between two pictures, video clips, or titles, in any combination, on the storyboard/timeline. The transition plays before the one clip ends and while the other clip starts to play. Windows Movie Maker contains various transitions you can add to your project. Transitions are stored in the Video Transitions folder in the Collections pane.
    .

  • Video effects. A video effect determines how a video clip, picture, or title displays in your project and final movie. Video effects let you add special effects to your movie. A video effect is applied for the entire duration that the video clip, picture, or title displays in your movie. You can add any of the video effects that appear in the Video Effects folder in the Collections pane.
    .

  • Titles and credits. Titles and credits let you enhance your movie by adding text-based information to your movie. You can add whatever text you want, but you may want to include information such as the title of your movie, your name, the date, and so forth. You can change the appearance of the title or credit, in addition to changing the title animation, which determines how your title or credit displays in your movie.

Save your Project

At this time, it would be a good idea to save your project. Saving the project allows you to come back to this video and continue working on it at a later time. With movie maker you have the choice to save as a Windows Media File or an AVI.

  1. Click on the Save button on the toolbar.

  2. Browse and select the folder where you would like to store this project.

  3. In the File Name field, give this project a name.

  4. Choose Save.

Traffic Tips for Beginners - Content

Website trafficIn the last post, we talked about some of the more basic ways to generate free website traffic. In this issue, we are going to go over several more ways that you can drive traffic to any website you want.

For any online business to succeed, it is important to have traffic to their website. Without traffic, there won’t be any visitors, customers or sales, which ultimately leads to failure. That is why it is so important to learn how to drive traffic where you want it to go.

As we discussed in the last issue, you can drive traffic to any website even if you’re on a tight budget, and today we are going to discuss some essential ways to accomplish this without spending a fortune in advertising.

One of the best ways to get more traffic is to provide fresh, unique and useful content on the website where you want more traffic. This is often referred to as content marketing. What makes this so effective is that the majority of people go online looking for information about the products and services they are thinking about purchasing.

Providing them with high quality, unique content on your website is like bait to lure them in and when it’s “really good” it keeps them interested. The nice thing about this method is that it works whether you are promoting your own website, your clients site or sending traffic to affiliate offers.

Bottom line, content is the best way to attract real visitors and get them to spend more time on your website. It will inspire them to share, bookmark, and return often. With every visit, they get one-step closer to becoming a paying customer. It also helps boost your credibility because when you provide lots of useful information on your site it makes you look like an expert in your niche, which builds trust and trust converts people into customers better than anything else does.

Optimize your website for search engines. In order for your site to be found on the search engines when people are looking for information, make sure that you use keywords and phrases in your headlines and throughout the rest of the content. This means that your site will show up and rank well when people search for those keywords and this will drive more traffic to your website.

Here is a great article that talks more about including keywords in you content:
http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/231333

Participate in targeted forums and social networks. This is a very effective way to drive traffic to any website. Join in on the conversations, answer questions and post useful information that is closely related to your industry. Just be sure not to post blatant adverting because most of the time this will get your posts deleted. Again, make sure to include a link to your website whenever appropriate.

Use viral marketing to drive traffic to your website. Write free ebooks or short reports with a link to your website as we briefly discussed in the last issue. Have a link to your website on your blog and on any press release that you write. These will all drive traffic to your website for a long time to come.

Drive traffic to your website using PPC (Pay per Click) advertising. This method will require a monetary investment. However, if you have an advertising budget, you can generate a lot of traffic very quickly by running a PPC campaign on Google Adwords, Facebook or other similar program. Just make sure you know what you’re doing before you invest or you could end up losing more than you make.

Video marketing is a very popular way drive traffic to any website. You can create a video about your product or service that you offer on your website and post that on YouTube. Add your website link on that video, and this will make sure that people who view your video will also visit your website.

By following even a couple of these tips, there is no reason why you can’t drive a lot of traffic to any website you choose, which in turn will help boost credibility and increase profits.

Traffic Tips for Beginners

Driving traffic doesn’t have to be complicated or cost a fortune. In fact, there are several simple ways that you can start driving traffic that won’t cost you a dime. Implementing a few of these, proven techniques can definitely help you get more visitors to your website and most of them won’t take you very long either.

Content is King! I’m sure you may have heard that phrase more than once before and when it comes to getting traffic it’s true. In fact, it is what makes the web go round and it’s one of the best ways to boost the flow of traffic to any website.

That is why the first tip I am going to share with you is to write articles closely related to the topic of the website you want to send traffic to and publish them everywhere. Let people know that they have permission to share them with others so that they publish them on their own websites as long as they include a link back to yours.

To make the most out of this technique you should submit them to other sites that publish content from guest authors and article directories like Ezinearticles.com. You can also set up a lens on Squidoo or a microblog on platforms like Hubspot, Microblogger, Tumblr or Posterous.

Whenever you publish, make sure that you include your URL in the author’s resource or bio box of your articles, so that when you article get published people who like the information you’ve provided will be inclined to visit your website.

This same technique works well for short reports and ebooks. Create something of value to give away and most people will be glad to share it, carrying a link to back to your site with it everywhere it goes.

Include your URL in your business correspondence. When it comes to getting traffic, you can’t be shy. Anyone you communicate with can be a potential customer. People are curious by nature so why not take advantage of it by giving them the opportunity to find out what you have to offer.

This also works well for all of your online correspondence as well. Be sure to include your URL in any emails, social profiles, forum signatures and any blog comments you make. This way when people read what you have written they will be exposed to your URL.

Arrange a joint venture with other website and list owners. Make a deal with them to advertise your website in exchange for a commission or some other form of reciprocation. This won’t cost you anything and it can be one of the fastest ways to generate traffic and increase profits.

If you don’t have a blog, set one up and add content to it on a regular basis. There is a very good reason why so many people use blogging platforms like WordPress to publish content and that is because it is very beneficial for getting good search engine rankings.  Every time you add new content to your blog, it will ping the search engines robots to come index your site, which leads to better listings and ultimately more traffic.

To help increase the visibility of your blog even more you should submit it directly to search engine and blog directories. While this will happen naturally over time, you will speed up the process if you take the time to submit your URL to at least the major directories like Google, Bing and Yahoo.

Here are 23 directories you need to know about:

1. Best of the Web Blog Search remains a powerful tool for sharing your blog, especially since this director’s very selective, listing only mature and valuable blogs. A link from here is majestic.

2. Bloggeries is one of the most respected blog directories. The layout is clear and concise, and readers are able to find what they are looking for in a snap.

3. EatonWeb Blog Directory is a powerful list. The fee, currently $34.99, pays for a review of your blog.

4. OnToplist.com is a free, manually-edited directory that reads the RSS feed of your blog. You can also use the site’s social features, article directory, and other great tools to build your blog.

5. Blogged.com is an interesting mix of a directory and a Google News type site that is fed by the blogs listed with Blogged. And it’s free to list your blog.

6. While the design and infrastructure have changed somewhat over the years, Blog Search Engine remains one of the most selective blog directories on the web. Membership has its privileges.

7. Blog Catalog features a vast number of categories, from “academic” to “writing”, while offering the ability to search by country, language or user. It has a no-frills design, but offers convenient access through a simple blog registration.

The above listings are a glimpse inside the large and vast world of blog directories and the valuable inbound links that your can build for your blog and your business.

If you want to take this process, a step further, you can create an RSS feeds for your site and submit the feed URLs to the major RSS feed directories as well. This will generate traffic to your website. If you are using WordPress it will automatically publish, an RSS feed for your content and comments. Then all you have to do is submit it.
